GPS Tracking

Location based time stamps ensure you know employees’ location in real time. This also provides the basis for reliable customer billing and resource optimization. The NOPSA application only uses GPS when loading projects or while tracking vehicles.

Before implementing a gps tracking system in a work-environment, there are a few things a business needs to consider. Employees should always be introduced to new ways of working. It is important to justify the purpose of the system and make it transparent where and how the system will be used. This can be done, for example, by familiarizing the employee with the practice of recording working time and introducing the benefits of gps-tracking from an employees perspective.

There are different levels of GPS tracking in the Nopsa system: instantaneous or continuous positioning. For work time and job-site tracking, the Nopsa mobile app uses instantaneous positioning, meaning location information is only used when searching for job-sites surrounding the current location. This will allow the employee to see only nearby work items on the mobile device. In vehicle tracking, a device or mobile application installed in a car is used for continuous positioning. This allows the system to display the location of the vehicle and draw a route map, for example, of completed plowing.

In order to successfully use GPS positioning for work time recording, a mobile phone must have, as a minimum, support for GPS-based position tracking and Internet access. If a native application for Android, iPhone or Windows Phone is used, tracking is more accurate and faster than in the browser-based app.

Benefits of GPS positioning in time tracking:

  • Shorter project list for employees, faster login
  • Clocking in and out is possible only at the job site
  • Knowledge of real-time occupation of work sites (occupational safety)
  • Detailed payroll and billing information
